Demonstration against Röttgen's cutbacks in the solar industry

Today at 5 minutes to 12 more than 100 AS Solar employees demonstrated loudly against the highly exaggerated plans by the German ministry of the environment to decrease the feed-in tariff for photovoltaic energy, and thus for the preservation of their jobs, in front of the company’s headquarter in Hannover. With the slogan “Cutting solar energy means cutting our future” the employees protested against the plans by the secretary of the environment Norbert Röttgen (CDU) to radically cut the feed-in tariff by April 1st, 2010. “The tariff was already cut by 9 to 11 per cent at the beginning of the year. An additional decrease by 15% would endanger our investments as well as our jobs” warned CEO Gerd Pommerien.

Hannover’s head of the economy and environment department Hans Mönninghoff declared his solidarity with Hannover’s solar companies and articulated concerns about the jobs in the photovoltaic industry. Many related businesses, some of them from the wind power industry, supported the protest.

More than 35 solar businesses took part in the symbolic company closing all over Germany. Around 20.000 employees from the areas industry, medium-sized enterprises and trade followed today’s call to protest by Bundesverband Solarwirtschaft (BSW-Solar).
