A Plea for the Energy Change
Carl-A. Fechner’s work “The Fourth Revolution: Energy” counts as Germany’s most successful documentary of the past year and creates a vision of a world that only uses energy from renewable sources. The film was produced in ten countries and took four years. Contrary to the usual pessimism regarding climate change and enrgy production the movie raises hope for a better future. The magazine “Spiegel” wrote: ”Energy change has never looked that good [...] It is the first film that actually has a positive answer to the dangers of clime change.” The movie will be shown free of charge in the plus-energy building on February 25 and 26 as well as on March 12 and 26 at 7 pm.
Together for Climate Protection
The non-profit “Klimaschutzagentur Region Hannover” has combined all climate protection activities within the region since 2001. It informs private persons and companies about saving energy and renewable energies in general. Together with its partners the agency has been developing many projects and campaigns. The agency consists of 12 associates, among them the wholesale trader AS Solar GmbH, the region and city of Hannover, energy suppliers and several other companies.
First Ignition of new AS Solar Pellet Heat System

As one of the first leading producers of pellet heat systems AS Solar equips its new company headquarters with a specially developed heating/cooling system consisting of solar collectors and pellet boilers. This intelligently aligned system guarantees a comfortable warmth in the entire building throughout the winter. During the summer it allows for cooling down the structure exclusively with renewable energies.
AS Solar CEO Gerd Pommerien opened the newly created “pellet showroom” by cutting the ceremonial ribbon on Monday, February 21. As of now visitors can visit pellet boilers in full use, among others two AS TDA, an AS CKA and an additional pellet silo model with screw conveying system. “This system is unique in the Hannover region and shows people that already today it is possible to heat every building environmentally friendly and still save costs compared to conventional energy sources” says Pommerien.
Pellets are one of the most important energy sources of the future. The small wooden briquettes contain the solar energy saved over a period of several years. They are CO2-neutral during the combustion process as well as safe and easy to use.
The AS Solar pellet-logwood combined boiler AS-TDA distinguishes itself through its innovative construction method. Apart from the fully automated and energy-saving pellet operation it also features the possibility to continue heating using logwood without retrofitting. This function is enabled by a self-optimising combustion and control technology.

In many African regions an unsufficient electricity supply prevents the economic and social progress and thus, an escape from poverty and hunger. Grid-independent solar systems offer the opportunity to supply even the remotest parts with electricity. AS Solar therefore supports the Center for Solar and Hygiene Tambacounda in the African republic of Senegal which is run by the non-profit Hanoverian agency Freundeskreis Tambacounda e.V.
AS Solar supports the pilot project financially and helps planning the construction of a solar system. CEO Gerd Pommerien handed over a cheque worth 3.250 € to the chairman of the agency Abdou Karim Sané on February 28. Parts of the amount were donated by AS Solar employees. “We from AS Solar consider it our responsibilty to help others with our resources” said Pommerien.
The Center for Solar and Hygiene Tambacounda in the African republic of Senegal is a pilot project which supports ecologic construction methods, ground water protection and the use of solar energy. The center also houses training courses and seminars in order to spread knowledge in the region. The project’s goal is to raise the local population’s awareness for the opportunities that solar technology and its practical application offers.
Since its founding in 1992 the Freundeskreis Tambacounda e.V. initiates in cooperation with several partners projects dealing with education, health, ecology and social issues.
